Get out to Centennial Park this Sunday!

As the end of August approaches, the evenings are getting shorter and Kerry are in another All Ireland final, you know the Championship finals in Toronto are nearing too. This year is a monumental year for Durham GFC as all three of our teams are in the finals this Sunday, August 30th, which is fitting as the club will be celebrating its' 25th year as part of the GAA in Toronto later on in the year.

The first game will see our ladies Junior team go for 2-in-a-row in the second year of the junior competition. They will face off with St. Pats who will definitely be no easy task. The girls had a hard fought win over Brampton last weekend after a very physical game, which will stand to them for the final. Throw in will be at 11am on the big field.

The Senior ladies will be hoping to make it 3-in-a-row versus St. Mikes at 2pm. Mikes and Durham have had some momentous battles already this year with St. Mikes beating Durham in an early round of the league but our girls came back with a convincing win in the League final. Durham will be seen as favourites but they won't be underestimating their strong opposition on Sunday.

Following the ladies, our Senior men will take to the field at 3.30pm for their first final in 10 years. Only two players remain from that winning team from 2005. The men have proved their mettle this year racking up the goal count from early stages in each game they have played. They had a 2 point win over Toronto Gaels in the semi-final after a tense second half and tenacious defending in the final moments of the game. Again, they will be facing a strong St. Mikes team who will feel have the upper hand going into this game after winning the league 3 weeks ago. The hunger from Durham will hopefully see the men in blue bringing home silverware in 2015.

The committee would urge as many people to get out to the park and show the teams their support. All three teams have trained very hard this year and there is a great vibe from the men and women's' teams on and off the field and it would be a fantastic occasion if all three teams are to bring back the cups. So get your flags, hats and headbands out and join us at Centennial Park this Sunday!
Durham Abú!

Semi Final Sunday

An exciting day for Durham Emmets this Sunday as we see both our ladies and mens teams line out in the Championship Semi Finals. Our ladies are up first taking on Ottawa on the small field at 11am. Later in the day the men will play Toronto Gaels at 3:30pm in the big field. Best of luck to both teams in what no doubt promises to be two great games.

Hope to see you all there!

Ladies crowned 2015 League Champions

Congratulations to our ladies team on being crowned 2015 Senior League Champions! It was another tough game for the girls against a strong St. Mikes team but in the end they ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-0. Next stop the Championship semi finals on the 16th of August @ 11am.

Semifinals here we come!

Congratulations to the Durham men's team who came out on top after a close game against Toronto Gaels. Only one point separated the teams at the end, with a final scoreline of 2-12 to 2-11. Despite some injuries, the men continued the form that we have already seen in this years league with a well deserved win. They now advance to the semi finals on the 16th of August.

Come out and support both our teams in the Championship Semi Finals on August 16th!

Results - June 15th 2014

Another great win by our ladies team yesterday who overcame Brampton on a scoreline of 3-21 to 1-2, after a slow start ,and a half time score of 6pts to a goal, the girls settled into the game and powered through. A big congratulations to all the new girls who put in outstanding displays.

The men were unlucky to go down to strong Mikes team, with a final score of 2-13 to 2-3. The men put up a good display and only trailed by 1 point at half time. Goal scorers Patrick Sheelan and Dave Sexton.

Montreal 9-a-side Tournament 2014

Montreal 9-a-side Tournament 2014

Congratulations to both our ladies teams who progressed from their respective categories to both reach the final of the Montreal Tournament. This resulted in a “spirited” and friendly, challenging final which ended in a draw so all the girls ended up winners on the day. A special word has to be said for the all the new girls who had travelled and the majority of whom had never played before, they all played fantastic and proved they are all very valuable additions to the team.

Our men’s team was unfortunate to lose the Senior Final to St. Mikes after a very hard fought game. They had good wins over both St. Pats and Montreal to qualify for the semi-finals. Montreal chose to give a walk over in the semi- final. Although we lost out on the Silverware it was a great day to play some of the newer players to the panel.

All players togged out in the new jerseys for the first time, which were kindly sponsored by Powerscreen Canada.
