Get out to Centennial Park this Sunday!

As the end of August approaches, the evenings are getting shorter and Kerry are in another All Ireland final, you know the Championship finals in Toronto are nearing too. This year is a monumental year for Durham GFC as all three of our teams are in the finals this Sunday, August 30th, which is fitting as the club will be celebrating its' 25th year as part of the GAA in Toronto later on in the year.

The first game will see our ladies Junior team go for 2-in-a-row in the second year of the junior competition. They will face off with St. Pats who will definitely be no easy task. The girls had a hard fought win over Brampton last weekend after a very physical game, which will stand to them for the final. Throw in will be at 11am on the big field.

The Senior ladies will be hoping to make it 3-in-a-row versus St. Mikes at 2pm. Mikes and Durham have had some momentous battles already this year with St. Mikes beating Durham in an early round of the league but our girls came back with a convincing win in the League final. Durham will be seen as favourites but they won't be underestimating their strong opposition on Sunday.

Following the ladies, our Senior men will take to the field at 3.30pm for their first final in 10 years. Only two players remain from that winning team from 2005. The men have proved their mettle this year racking up the goal count from early stages in each game they have played. They had a 2 point win over Toronto Gaels in the semi-final after a tense second half and tenacious defending in the final moments of the game. Again, they will be facing a strong St. Mikes team who will feel have the upper hand going into this game after winning the league 3 weeks ago. The hunger from Durham will hopefully see the men in blue bringing home silverware in 2015.

The committee would urge as many people to get out to the park and show the teams their support. All three teams have trained very hard this year and there is a great vibe from the men and women's' teams on and off the field and it would be a fantastic occasion if all three teams are to bring back the cups. So get your flags, hats and headbands out and join us at Centennial Park this Sunday!
